As we get closer to July 4th, I always wondered about the phrase... As American as Apple Pie and Chevrolet. Louis Chevrolet was a Swiss race car driver who founded the company. As for another GM company Cadillac...it was named after French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, so again not American. How about Oldsmobile... Yes Ransom Olds was born on Ohio and moved to Lansing to start his company and we all know... well should know that Pontiac was named after an Ottawa chief named Pontiac who the city of Pontiac was named after so technically...No. So of the big 4 GM companies only Oldsmobile is really as American as apple pie.
